Community Working Together to Plan All Candidates Meeting
October 4, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
FreeThe Central Saanich Community Association (CSCA) in partnership with Stelly’s Secondary School is organizing an All Candidates Meeting for the 2022 Municipal Election.
Schedule:
- 5:00 – 6:15 pm – School Trustee Meeting
- 6:15 – 6:30 pm – Break
- 6:30 – 7:00 pm – Candidate meet and greet
- 7:00 – 9:00 pm – All Candidates Meeting
Stelly’s and CSCA have partnered on past federal, provincial and municipal debates. Similar to previous years, Stelly’s students will be co-hosting the event and supporting everything from promoting the event, asking questions to the candidates, to co-moderating the event.
Seven of the eight candidates running for councilor positions have confirmed their attendance. Christopher Graham, Zeb King, Gord Newton, Niall Paltiel and Bob Thompson are running as incumbents with Jackie Lee, Sarah Riddell and Geoff Krause (yet to confirm his attendance) running for their first time.
New to this year’s event is a separate school board trustee component. Although Central Saanich only has two candidates running for two available positions, all school board trustees from the peninsula have been invited to participate.
The event will take place on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 in the Stelly’s Secondary School multipurpose room. The event is free and open to the public, with the school board trustee meeting taking place from 5:00 – 6:00 pm. The All Candidates Meet and greet event starts at 6:30 and the debate takes place from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.
The Central Saanich Community Association is compiling questions for candidates in advance of the event. Residents are encouraged to send in their burning questions by October 1st to csca@shaw.ca Due to the events time constraints the CSCA may not have the time to ask all the questions submitted but popular topics will be addressed through the questions chosen.
